J. Kevin Ford is a professor of psychology at Michigan State University.  His major research interests involve improving training effectiveness through efforts to advance our understanding of training needs assessment, design, evaluation and transfer.  Dr. Ford also concentrates on building continuous learning and improvement orientations within organizations.  He has published over 50 articles, chapters, and technical reports and serves on the editorial board of Human Performance. He was the lead editor of a recent book on “Improving Training Effectiveness in Work Organizations”.  He is an active consultant with private industry and the public sector on training, teamwork, and organizational development issues.  His recent projects have included the areas of leadership development for Union Pacific and A.O. Smith, employee relations for Tenneco Automotive, teamwork for Great Lakes Industries, continuous quality improvement for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, change management strategies with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health division and evaluating distance learning programs for the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences.  Currently he is a consultant for the Michigan Truck Safety Commission on evaluating truck safety programs, facilitator of transformational change efforts in police agencies in Michigan, consultant for Great Lakes Industries on employee continuous improvement plans and a training strategy consultant for 3M.  He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology.  He received his BS in psychology from the University of Maryland and his MA and Ph.D. in psychology from The Ohio State University.
